Mary Gale suggested I try this with my grandson when he comes for the weekend... she used this activity with her 8 yr old scouting group and they had a wonderful time. They used them for paperweights.... you could do larger rocks and put them in the garden too! I thought it sounded like a great idea to give to sisters you visit teach who have children.... something they could do on Monday's family home evening...... lighter your sister's load alittle with a new idea for her to use!
Directions are from the web site......
Use rocks with a fairly smooth, flat surface. Heat the rocks up in a 350 degree oven for 15 minutes on a foil lined cookie sheet. While they are heating have your kids get busy tearing the paper off of crayons they plan to color/paint on the rocks with. remind them to handle the rocks with pot holders. Put the rocks down on a protected surface and "paint" with crayons. The crayons melt and the resulting color is very vivid. Try glittery crayons also... they are the best!.......... you can use the rocks as paper weights or place them outside... spray with a sealer if you intend to put them outside in your garden. Have fun!
